The Metropolitan Police Department has issued an alert after a suspect lit a man on fire in Northwest DC.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, police say that a person poured a substance on his victim at the intersection of North Capitol Street and P Street NW, then ignited that liquid before running off.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed "serious" injuries.

No details about the suspect were provided by investigators, who released a photo of the hooded man still carrying the container that held the liquid.

Anyone with information about the man or incident has been asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting the tip to 50411.
